I designed this as an interactive illustration for The Atlantic article on extreme fishing. I wanted the reader to feel unease. Taking the article’s themes of risk, secrecy, and darkness, I reinforced them through limited visibility and progressive dimming as you scroll.

You read with a moving beam of light. Everything outside the circle drops into shadow. As you scroll deeper, the environment darkens.

I translated the digital feeling into print using a fishing rod anchored to the title and a large field of negative space to mirror the darkness of the screen. The empty area aims to create isolation in a different medium.
